Modern Ketubah: fine art ketubah by photographer Daniel Sroka Since 2003

About Modern Ketubah and the artist Daniel Sroka

Daniel Sroka of Modern Ketubah and his wife signing the ketubah he made for their wedding.

My wife and I signing the ketubah I made for our wedding.

My name is Daniel Sroka. I am a fine art photographer, and the artist and owner of Modern Ketubah. I got my start making ketubahs by making one for my own wedding.

My fiancée Cara and I spent many weeks searching for the right ketubah. We must have looked through hundreds of designs, but none of them was right. Every ketubot we saw seemed to rely on the same old imagery: stars of David, trees of life, or Chagall-like brides and grooms flying over Jerusalem. These symbols get used so often for so many purposes, that they did not hold any special meaning for us.

We had just planted our first garden, and I was working on an art project photographing the flowers as they came into bloom. I showed Cara some photographs I had made of one old rose bush in particular, and suddenly, we realized that we had found our ketubah. The symbolism of this ancient rose bush, older than us yet still creating flowers of beauty, elegance, and strength said more to us about marriage than any of the traditional images we had previously seen. We therefore created our own ketubah, using my own artwork. After our wedding, so many people asked me to make a similar ketubah that I was inspired to create more ketubot from my photography.

What is special about Modern Ketubah?

Daniel Sroka in his photography studioModern Ketubah is artist owned and operated, based out of my studio in northern New Jersey. It has now been over 5 years since I started Modern Ketubah, and in that time it has been my honor to create ketubahs for over 800 couples across the US, Canada and the UK.

All of my ketubah designs are based on my fine art photography of flowers, leaves, and nature. I use these non-traditional symbols of life and joy to offer couples a more contemporary approach to this ancient tradition. My goal is to create ketubot which any couple, from any background or situation can find meaningful and significant. Since I have nearly 20 years of professional experience in graphic design, typography, photography and printing, you can be assured that your ketubah will meet the highest standard of quality. I take great pride in making sure that every ketubah I make is a handmade work of art worthy of your home. You can learn more at my nature photography website or by reading my blog.
